Welcome to our new weekly blog feature, Tip-sy Tuesdays! Every Tuesday you can come HERE to get our tips and advice for what makes a wedding easy to photograph – from a professional photographer’s point of view. When you think about it, your wedding photography is the only thing that you have left when everything is said and done. It’s the only thing that will take you back to that special day and make it seem real again. So, why not choose things for your wedding that will look good AND photograph well? Just have an AH-HA moment? Got ya thinkin’, didn’t I? That’s the point!
Our advice this week is COLOR! When you hired us, you probably did so because our vibrant and colorful style caught your eye. Well, the only way to make your images consistent with our style is to have LOTS and lots of color on your big day. Now, we aren’t saying we wouldn’t LOVE to photograph a very muted (say grey and ivory) wedding because we totally would LOVE to but this post is written especially for all the vibrant color-loving brides our there. Our biggest advice is to go big, or go home! If your favorite color is pink (like mine), then make it be known and obvious for your guests. In other words, over do it a bit! A great way to make your wedding look not so one dimensional is to pick different things that are the same color BUT different shades of that color. These color swatches are a great way to see what we mean by this.
It’s also a great idea to pick your color based on what your favorite color is, NOT what season it is. Hubby and I had a pink wedding in October and many people thought that was a strange decision. Well, Houston’s weather is a bit strange in itself so when it’s fall, it’s more like Spring. Our wedding day matched our color and the feel of our wedding just perfectly! Try not to listen to others, the most important thing is that your wedding shows your personalities, not what is necessarily expected of you by others.
Want another suggestion for choosing your wedding color? Think about the mood, look and feel that you want to portray in your wedding images. Want calm and relaxed? Pick blue. Want warm and summery? Pick orange or yellow. Want cute and girly? Pick pink. And so on….
Take a good look at these collages that we created to get some color ideas for your big day!
HAPPY PLANNING, sweet brides =)
