tip-sy tuesdays #7 // houston wedding photographer

Welcome to our new weekly blog feature, Tip-sy Tuesdays! Every Tuesday you can come HERE to get our tips and advice for what makes a wedding easy to photograph – from a professional photographer’s point of view. When you think about it, your wedding photography is the only thing that you have left when everything is said and done. It’s the only thing that will take you back to that special day and make it seem real again. So, why not choose things for your wedding that will look good AND photograph well? Just have an AH-HA moment? Got ya thinkin’, didn’t I? That’s the point!

When Jeremy and I got married, I designed everything for our wedding from the invitations to our programs down to the design of our reception tables. While planning, the thing I was most concerned about over everything else was my pink linens and lime green napkins. Oh my goodness, I was obsessed! When I finally found them and paid the deposit, I was THRILLED that I found exactly what I was looking for! You’d be surprised how hard it is to find fushia pink table cloths for long rectangular tables. I didn’t end up finding them locally…I found them in Dallas at M&M Events (who were wonderful to work with). Thank goodness one of my bridesmaids was traveling from Dallas into town for our wedding. She was able to pick them up for us and return them after. My colored linens made ALL the difference and we got tons of compliments on them on our wedding day. They added that little touch that made everything come together just beautifully. Many guests thought we hired someone to design everything!

Choosing colored linens to coordinate with your wedding colors over the white linens that your venue most likely provides will make a big difference with the look and cohesiveness of everything photographed on your wedding day. This little tip can go a looong way! It adds color (something photographers love) to every direction you will look at your reception. It may cost a bit extra but I promise you, it will look stunning AND every table will pop!

Hi! I’m a friend of Patty and Brandon’s. I absolutely love the idea of brightly colored table linens; it looks like it pulls everything together well. Thanks for your idea and beautiful photos! Love your website.

This is a good idea! Colors are great!

Uh oh, looks like we’ll contradict your advice again, Jenna! Haha! We’ll be using all white tablecloths! I think it will be okay though, since The Courtyard has so much greenery and flowers! This is definitely a great idea for people looking to add color to their space!

[...] And, last but not least – we’ve said it once and we’ll say it again – colored table clothes!  Don’t skimp on wedding linens if you can help it!  Colored table cloths add SOOO much to [...]

This is a great way to add some visual interest to your venue! Ali and Louis can just pull from the colors around them, but I do love how you used the table clothes at your wedding.

Our venue is in desperate need of color and decorations! I was thinking navy table cloths or just white with navy runners.

Eric von Wenckstern - November 4, 2011 - 2:56 am

The venue we picked out is fairly bland and it definitely needs color. Natalie got really excited after reviewing these pictures!

Wow, the tables looked amazing at y’all’s wedding! Like I said before, I love that Louis & Ali can see more venue inspiration since you all got/are getting married at the same place!

It’s great to see pictures from where Ali and Louis will be married, Jenna!

I really like colorful wedding! Your wedding looked so pretty! I like your color scheme!

I know this isn’t what you were talking about in this tip, but I really like how you had a flower at each place setting in your wedding photo. Ali and Louis should do something like that : )

I like colored linens and how they look on tables and these are beautiful but I have seen disasters in color as well. I’m glad that Jessica has such a good eye for what works.

The color schemes are amazing
